My friend took me to this restaurant when I came to Newcastle for work. We had a brilliant time, the food was delicious and the restaurant was beautiful. After I moved to Newcastle I wanted to return for a special meal. We took my boyfriend's mother here from Ireland and I'm so pleased they thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The service was fantastic, very attentive and they made our evening very enjoyable. The Madras was very hot so they kept the water and yoghurt coming! We also ordered the Mixed Grill, the set menu, Goan Fish Curry, Nan and Roti as well as Poppadoms! We finished everything and left very full, satisfied and happy! Thank you!!

I paid my third visit to Simla last week. Again, the food was excellent and I would highly recommend the Prawn Curry and the fantastic Pineapple and Carrot chutney. Although I was eating by myself I was made to feel very welcome. I heard people at the next table saying that the Lamb Chops were superb. I would highly recommend Simla for interesting and tasty food.

Family outing for my birthday. I like to go to a place that is a little special and the Simla is just that - not just the fabulous food but the ambience and the service. Shelley greets you like an old friend and dining here is like dining in the house of an old friend. Thank you for making our evening!

My first visit to the Simla and I was very impressed. The restaurant has a comfortable stylish interior and a very relaxed atmosphere . The staff were very attentive and welcoming without being overbearing. The menu was a mix of modern contemporary cuisine with some traditional favourites. The perfect blend to ensure something for everyone. Our meal was delicious and beautifully presented, also very reasonably priced. I will certainly be visiting this restaurant again in the future.

Called in with a friend off spec on Wednesday evening, the restaurant was very busy and the atmosphere was very relaxed We asked for a table as we had not made a reservation and the staff were so very helpful and pleasing. We took the last table, the service was first class and the food, well it was the best ever Indian cuisine we have experienced! The food was served with a contemporary twist and delicious. On asking the staff to recommend a main dish they duly obliged and I was not disappointed. A very big thank you to all of the staff for making our first visit to Simla a wonderful experience and it certainly won’t be our last. Adil I think was our main waiter, great guy just like all of his colleagues. Well done and thank you.

Visited Simla last night and the reason why it has all of these amazing reviews soon became apparent. The food was wonderful particularly the Coastal Curry main and the Onion Pakora to start. The décor is lovely and modern with nice furnishings and the glasses and cutlery were exquisite. However, the star of the show and the driving force behind these reviews has to be the second to non service from Abdul and his team; what a wonderful, kind and friendly man but not too overbearing - he made the night and we will definitely visit again.

Excellent meal celebrating my daughter’s birthday. The staff were really helpful and attentive throughout. The starters (prawns and scallops) were some of the best we’ve ever had and a great range of mains and sides too. Without making a fuss, when they found out it was a birthday meal they brought a complimentary dessert too. Highly recommend the restaurant and will visit again when in Newcastle.

We returned to this wonderful restaurant for the third time, because the food is amazing, and the service is incredible! Coming back again is like being welcomed back into the fantastic Simla family. Staff are engaging, courteous and friendly, service is superb, ambience is wonderful, and of course, the food is incredible. If you’re curious, the Bengali phrase ‘fata fattee’ simply means ‘amazing food’, tasty, mouth-watering, scrumptious and delicious, cooked with care, creativity and flair. We’ll be coming back, again and again and again. Thank you again for a lovely evening, thank you for your hospitality, wonderful cooking, and your friendly welcome. Looking forward to our next fata fattee experience with you next time!

The paneer was home made and absolutely delicious and offered in three different dishes. Would also highly recommend the Vegetable Tikka starter. The staff are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable so please ask them about the dishes. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly - cant recommended highly enough.

My family and I came for a meal here last Friday and the food and service was outstanding. Nothing was too much to ask for the friendly staff and the food was the tastiest I’ve had in a long time! Will definitely be returning and recommend the Lamb Shank Rogan Josh to anyone who can handle a bit of spice!

Second time eating at Simla and this experience was just as good as the first. Fantastic food, reasonably priced, lovely atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff - there isn't anything that I can fault. It is Indian food done exceptionally well and this is matched by the level of service. The Goan Fish Curry and Potato/Cauliflower/Caramelized Onion side dish were particular highlights! Will definitely return very soon!

This is not the first time I’ve visited Simla, every time I come home to Newcastle (I live in London), it’s a must do. The amount of Indians I’ve been to it’s insane, but this is definitely the number one out of all! Every part of the meal was incredible (from the starters with the beautiful pineapple pickle, to the garlic naan which is like no other), they accommodate slight changes too (like having prawns instead of meat etc), and the service is second to none. My parents met in this restaurant and it’s crazy to think 30 years later it’s still our favourite! Thanks so much for the great food tonight, and for the drinks after! See you again soon 🙂

We loved it here! The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was beautifully cooked. Popadoms light and crispy, meat super tender, sauces with heaps of flavour. We can’t wait to come back!

uldn't recommended more highly. Fantastic authentic curry house with a wide range of interesting and familiar dishes. Staff were attentive and extremely friendly with the added bonus of an extra portion of their divine mango chutney on the house for a very pregnant, hungry and grateful partner!

We visited here as a couple on a Sunday evening. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left we were looked after amazingly. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The restaurant itself is very well presented and the atmosphere was really relaxing. The food - wow! - this has to rank among the best we’ve had. The popadoms were light and melt in the mouth and served with a delicious selection of home-made pickles. Our starter of chilli garlic chicken was delicious and the mains were both fantastic. The ingredients were obviously fresh and the spice was so well judged, tasty and not overpowering. It was all beautifully presented too. This was our first visit and next time we’re looking for Indian food in Newcastle we know where we’ll be heading!
